Governor Bob Taft
TAFT
HONORS 29 OHIO COMPANIES FOR EXCELLENCE IN EXPORTING
American Augers Inc. Named
“Exporter of the Year”
COLUMBUS
(June 28, 2005) – Governor
Bob Taft today recognized 29 Ohio companies and organizations with the
Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Award (“E” Award) and presented
American Augers, Inc., of West Salem, with the 2005 Exporter of the Year Award.
“To
succeed in today’s global economy, companies must aggressively explore
opportunities to sell their products in various world markets,” Taft said.
“This year’s “E” Award winners have proven that
Ohio
companies not only succeed at home, but also thrive in the international
arena.”
Established in 1985, the Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Award
recognizes Ohio companies that have increased sales volume through exports, have
increased Ohio-based employment as a direct result of export activity, or have
developed an implemented a strategy to expand their international sales. Since
1991, more than 300 companies have received the award.
Since
1994, one
Ohio
company has been selected each year as “Exporter of the Year” for its
outstanding growth in the international marketplace and exemplifying the
state’s commitment to international trade. American
Augers, Inc. sells more into international markets than into the domestic market
and was honored with this year’s award for its outstanding export sales,
history of exporting and commitment to the
Ohio
exporting market.
“From
our 10 foreign trade offices to our missions abroad, the Ohio Department of
Development remains an excellent resource for
Ohio
companies wanting to compete in the global marketplace,” said Lieutenant
Governor Bruce Johnson, who also serves as State Development Director. Johnson
also noted that the recently passed tax reform plan will particularly benefit
exporters. “Our new tax reform
encourages investment in new machinery and equipment and benefits exporters by
exempting from taxes those sales made to destinations outside
Ohio
.”
Ohio
is the sixth largest exporting state in the
United States
and the only state whose exports have increased every year since 1998.
Ohio
companies exported $31.2 billion in goods in 2005, an increase of almost five
percent from 2004 figures.
